2 More Things Creation Reveals About God
The Wordless Speech of Heaven and Earth
Last week, I wrote about 3 things creation reveals about God. Here are 2 more things that we can perceive about God’s eternal power and divine nature from what he created (Romans 1:20).
1. He is Eternal, Omnipresent, Transcendent and Holy
“His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze … and his voice was like the roar of many waters”. “…a throne stood in heaven …And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald.” (Revelation 1:13-16; 2-4).
Space, time and matter had a beginning, therefore the one who created them is space-less, timeless, and is not confined by matter. In other words, he does not have a beginning; he simply is. He is not bound by space or matter; he is omnipresent. He is something else entirely. Something that we cannot comprehend and do not have words for. You can see this in the biblical texts. Whenever God’s prophets have a vision of God, they try as best as they can to explain what they are seeing but words fail them. They have to resolve to use analogies or metaphors to attempt to describe the Glory of the One seated on the Throne. Behold the Holy, Holy, Holy God!
2. He is Gentle and All-Powerful
“Consider the lilies of the field.. even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these”. “Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you …Behold, his strength … and his power…” (Matthew 6:28b -29; Job 40:15-18).
Have you considered how delicate flowers are, how enormous the blue whale is, how tiny ants are, and how fragile butterflies are? Have you also considered the billions of galaxies out there, the gigantic balls of fires constantly spinning around, and the differences in the passage of time in space? I recently watched a documentary about some discovered planets that frankly defy logic or are flat-out terrifying. Some are several times hotter than the sun, some are ice giants or balls of pure lava or gas. One planet, in particular, caught my attention. It is a scorching hot, Jupiter-size planet that somehow has the density of a marshmallow!
The same God made all of these: the terrifying, the delicate, the gigantic, the tiny, the unexplainable, the visible, and the invisible. He is gentle enough to make and color the petals of a rose and powerful enough to speak into existence a ball of fire with a diameter of 178,000 miles. Let that sink in.
In the same way, He is gentle enough to lead his sheep into green pastures (Matthew 11:29; Psalm 103:14; Psalm 23:1-3) and powerful enough to utterly defeat the fiercest enemies (2 Corinthians 13:4;12:9; 1 Corinthians 15:25-27; 2 Timothy 1:9-10; Psalm 89:13; Isaiah 40:28-31). Have no fear. Trust in Him. Behold the Gentle and Almighty God!
"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1-2)
